Paston Suite Maids Head 017

New in Norwich

It’s always exciting when (positive) changes are afoot, and there have been plenty in Norwich recently! Here’s our roundup of our “New in Norwich” highlights:

This year Norwich is doing Christmas bigger and better than ever before! Funded by Norwich Business Improvement District (BID), the city will see not only the usual sparkling lights adorning the outside of many businesses in the city centre, but also some exciting new additions!

There’ll be an incredible 45-meters long ‘Tunnel of Light’ (17 November 2016 – 5 January 2017) made up of 50,000 LED lights which will flash and pulse in various sequences. They’ll even reflect the colours and patterns of the Northern Lights! This is a first for the UK and will be completely free to walk through, so it absolutely should not be missed. 17 November – 5 January 2017.

To celebrate Christmas in style this year there’ll also be some fantastic projections onto Norwich Castle and City Hall, featuring specially commissioned films which will be broadcast nightly between 5 – 9pm. The Art Deco City Hall’s film will tell a traditional Christmas narrative whilst the Castle will feature a tale of contemporary Christmas adventure; both will be well worth seeing so make sure you see these - and the Tunnel of Light too - after dark for maximum impact! 17 November – 5 January 2017.

For the first time, this year the city centre will have its own outdoor Christmas Market – in fact two of them, one with a Norwegian twist! Also funded by Norwich BID, there’ll be a pop-up artisan Norwegian Handcrafters’ Christmas market which will be positively brimming with exciting chalets. Pick up hot food and drinks, crafts, continental food and much more, all with a really festive feel! Then the space will be transformed into the Enterprise Christmas Market (26-29 November) which will see young local entrepreneurs selling their wares in what is a first for East Anglia (supported by Norwich University of the Arts, The Teenage Market and Young Enterprise). The perfect place to pick up some truly unique Christmas presents! 19 - 24 & 26 - 29 November 2016.

Giggling Squid Lunchtime 2 Dish Meal Combi

Book a table here for delicious Thai food served up in amazing surroundings.  The restaurant, in the heart of Tombland is in a beautiful listed building and, trust us, the visual impact continues inside where you’ll see wonderful décor! We recommend asking a waiter for recommendations, as the menu is just jam-packed full of amazing-sounding dishes and you’ll want to try it all, so make sure you go hungry! They’re also taking bookings now for Christmas meals between 24 November & 26 December, and the menu looks superb – it would make a particularly good alternative to traditional Christmas meal, don’t you think?! Open now (and accepting orders through Deliveroo from 8 November onwards).
