Christmas is well and truly, almost, very nearly here – and what is more classically Christmas than a trip to the Pantomime? VisitNorwich has teamed up with Norwich Theatre Royal and the Maid’s Head Hotel to offer you the chance to win the ultimate, chocolate-box-Christmas break for you and your family in beautiful, illuminated Norwich.
On the 15th of December, the winner will be going with the family to see this year's Norwich Pantomime – Sleeping Beauty, and afterwards staying for one night in a Family Room at the beautiful and historic Maid’s Head Hotel, located in the heart of the city centre.
We all know the Sleeping-Beauty story: a beautiful princess is cursed by an evil, jealous baddie, and falls asleep for a hundred years! It’s up to the Prince to save her – will he make it? The panto will step back in time to the turn of the last century in a grand country house where Coronation Street actor and children’s television legend Derek Griffiths will be using his magical powers as Chortwood the butler to ward off the evil Dowager Aunt Vipera, played by EastEnders ‘Jean Slater’ Gillian Wright.
This year the cast features Panto double-act Richard Gauntlett and Ben Langley, with Richard also penning and directing the show! Richard has promised Sleeping Beauty will deliver lots of traditional panto fun with all the usual Norwich Theatre Royal special twists including lots of water. In his words: "We will be getting very wet this year. We will be getting very, very wet!”
Set in the beautiful Norwich Theatre Royal, the venue is one of only a few theatres of that size in the UK to produce its own Pantomime, and unusually there is also a live six-piece band playing specially arranged music. Get whisked away in the fairytale spectacle of magic, smoke and mirrors, mischievous fun and music, and beautiful sets and costumes, all just a short walk from your hotel…
The Maid's Head
The Maid’s Head claims to be the oldest Hotel in Britain, and can trace its roots all the way back to the 12th Century! They’ve also had some pretty impressive celebrity visitors: Catherine of Aragon, Queen Elizabeth I and Admiral Lord Nelson, to name a few. Beside the Cathedral in the heart of the city centre, the Maid’s Head is a 4-star Hotel, ideally located to explore the City (and not too far to carry all that Christmas shopping!). The winner of this prize will be staying in a beautiful family room, comprised of a double bed and two additional beds, full English breakfast and parking is included in your stay. And if you aren’t lucky enough to win this time, check out their fantastic Festive Shop and Stay package on our website (it comes with Afternoon Tea, Prosecco AND complimentary car parking!).
