Whoever came up with the name for Norwich's FAMOUS Crime Writing Festival was an absolute genius.
This September, NOIRWICH comes to town again.
We've got not one but TWO competitions for you to enter, which could see you win either a published short story and a load of Noirwich goodies, OR a weekend break in Norwich with exclusive access to all events! This annual celebration is one not to be missed, and brings together superstar crime authors, exciting new talent and fans of all things crime fiction. Coming up this September, expect to see Val McDermid, Nicci French, Paula Hawkins, John Banville & Benjamin Black, plus a host of workshops to help you get your head down, pen moving, and mind racing. It's a spectacular event that takes over the city, bringing together some of the best names in crime fiction, and the most atmospheric venues in the city.

PD James, Elly Griffiths, Harry Brett, Cathi Unsworth…plenty of crime writers have taken inspiration for their writing from Norfolk, ‘the land of big skies and buried secrets’. We’re on the hunt for writers – beginner and established alike – to join the crime writing hall of fame for the region by entering our flash fiction competition!
Submit a 500 word story inspired by, or set in, Norwich or Norfolk to win an incredible set of prizes:
- £100 voucher for Jarrold’s book department
- Publication on the City of Stories website
- National Centre for Writing goody bag
All shortlisted writers will be invited to the finale of this year’s Noirwich Crime Writing Festival, Noirwich Live, on Sunday 16 September. The winner of the competition will be announced and there will be an opportunity for all shortlisted writers to perform their pieces on stage if they wish. The event will be headlined by international bestselling Norfolk crime writer Elizabeth Haynes.
Earlier in the day, Great Yarmouth-based crime novelist Harry Brett will be in conversation with Graeme Cameron, Elly Griffiths and Elodie Harper about Norfolk as a setting for crime writing. Book tickets now >>

We’ve teamed up with the lovely folks at Noirwich Crime Writing Festival to give away two nights in Apartment 18a at The Grosvenor in the centre of Norwich, and tickets to all Saturday and Sunday events at this year’s festival. COMING TO VISIT?
Greater Anglia has Advance fares from £10 one way between London Liverpool Street and Norwich. Trains run every 30 minutes. Greater Anglia also serves Colchester, Ipswich and Diss on the Norwich line. Direct trains also run from Cambridge.
East Midlands Trains runs services from Liverpool, Manchester and Nottingham. Flights into Norwich served from Edinburgh, Manchester, Exeter, Aberdeen and Amsterdam, and seasonally from Guernsey and Jersey.
