Are you sick of having to choose from restaurants’ one or, occasionally, two veggie options? Had enough mushroom risotto to last a lifetime?
Never fear, because Norwich has an excellent food offer for vegetarians (and vegans), ranging from dedicated restaurants which only serve veggie meals to those which have options for everyone but offer a great range of veggie and vegan dishes.
Read on, because we’ve selected our favourite options to keep you happy, not hangry!
This veggie heaven on Opie Street (nice and central!) serves up delicious, authentic Indian food – not the Anglicised adaptations you’ll find in many restaurants – all of which is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. The flavours are delicious and the restaurant is family owned and run; in fact their popularity has led them to open a brand new, bigger premises on Queen Street, called Namaste Village, so you have a choice of venue!
Psst… find them in the Norwich Food & Drink Guide – there’s even a voucher in there for both restaurants!
If you fancy imaginative vegetarian (with many dishes also vegan) food inspired by a range of international cuisines, this is the place for you! Using locally sourced produce, the menu changes regularly with mouth-watering dishes including mushroom wellington, Thai curry, Morroccan spiced chickpeas and many more – inspired by quite a mix of countries! They also host various foodie events throughout the year, so keep an eye on their website for details.
Enjoy tapas-inspired dishes at this hip, newly refurbished restaurant. Chefs create food in the open kitchen, with plenty of open flames and sizzling smells, creating some great veggie plates including Cauliflower shawarma with caramelised onions, pine nuts, crispy cauliflower and tahini dressing, Roasted butternut squash, burnt aubergine, pomegranate molasses, toasted seeds and basil or Smoked aubergine chips, tempura battered with rocket & chilli mayonnaise – plus many others. They also have a great cocktail menu to work your way through!
This is one of our favourite cafés in the city, perfect for relaxing with a delicious coffee and lunch, whilst you’re people watching! They pride themselves on offering tasty veggie options daily and have a deli area (hence the name!) where you can buy take away food to enjoy later – that’s your lunch AND evening meals sorted!
Situated in one of our favourite parts of the city – the Norwich Lanes – this café serves up freshly made falafels with your choice of accompaniment and plenty of additional toppings if you feel like pimping up your salad! Who can resist adding baba ganoush, olives, feta… go for it all on a salad or in a Moorish pitta bread sandwich, and then treat yourself to some baklava (or one of their other sweet treats!) afterwards!
This delightful city-centre restaurant serves up a range of delicious dishes, but have some really tasty veggie options too - we love the spinach and mushrooms crepes, the butternut squash risotto and their goats’ cheese salad! They’ve also won awards for their Coeliac-friendly dishes.
Yes, we know it’s a fish 'n' chip shop, but stay with us… it’s never easy finding a chippie that uses veggie-friendly oil. On request, Orford Plaice are happy to fry their…well, fries, in vegetable oil, meaning you can pig out on chips to your heart’s content – and it’s right in the city centre, too!
