TO SPACE AND BACK: RETURN TO THE FORBIDDEN PLANET

We may not always think of science fiction blending seamlessly with pop music, but Return To The Forbidden Planet manages just that – with style!

The show is billed as a ‘jukebox musical’ which, for those not in the know, means it’s includes a kooky fusion of already-released pop songs (in this case, from the 50’s to 70’s) with a comical storyline set in - and on the way to – space, taking characters light years into the future!

Based loosely on the 1956 film The Forbidden Planet, which was in turn based on Shakespeare’s much-loved play The Tempest, the musical version has won an Olivier Award and is well known for its medley of long-adored hits, including Good Vibrations, Great Balls of Fire, All Shook Up, We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place among many others you’re bound to recognise too. What’s not to love?!

Directed by Peter Beck and with a great cast which has just announced Terry Molloy (best known for his role as Davros in Doctor Who) in the role of the newsreader, plus musical direction from Joe Ringer and the promise of hilarity and definite weirdness, this is one theatre-musical combo you can’t miss!

Tickets for Return to the Forbidden Planet are priced £10 - £12 (£8 for matinee performances) available from the Maddermarket Theatre Box Office (open Monday – Friday 10 – 5 & Saturday 10 – 1pm); call 01603 620917 or buy from www.maddermarket.co.uk
