Strolling around the city at night, you'd be forgiven for not expecting to see a man suspended in mid-air on the walls of one of the most iconic and recognisable buildings in the city - The Forum.
Still, you'd better prepare to be amazed and surprised because this weekend sees the launch of the fantastic Norfolk & Norwich Festival. The 2016 programme kicks off on Friday & Saturday night (13th & 14th May, 10pm) with the aforementioned and amazing free event, FLAT, which will see an apartment suspended from The Forum building, right in the heart of the city. With the addition of video animation, and using mapping technology to track his movements, audience members are invited to watch as "one man climbs, falls and leaps around his home"! It's set to be a spectacular start to what is one of the oldest city festivals in England and should not be missed - here's your 2 day warning!
After enjoying the festival's launch in all its glory, why not continue the fun elsewhere in the city? The night is still young, after all... There's a slow and fast lane to Norwich, depending on what kind of night you fancy!
The city is stuffed full of exciting eateries and stylish bars to enjoy a post-performance tipple in; East Twenty Six is an ideal after-dark hideout, offering an extensive drinks menu including cocktails, and delicious tapas-inspired sharing dishes, all housed in a stylish glass-fronted building. Feel suitably cosmopolitan sipping on your favourite cocktail and then select some of their small dishes to accompany it; their Smoked Aubergine Chips, Smoked Korean style chicken wings and Salt cod croquettes sound particularly drool-worthy!
For something a little more casual, head to the Norwich Lanes and enjoy fish & chips with a twist at the Grosvenor (give their mackerel or rock salmon a try!). Their refurbished undercroft seating has a buzzing atmosphere and fab 50’s swing music to polish off your plaice to, or alternatively take your supper over to the Birdcage and enjoy it with an alcoholic beverage of your choice!
